CACI is currently looking for a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior Level -Technical Documentation Writer with Agile methodology experience to join our Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Land Border Integration (LBI) Integrated Traveler Initiative ITI2.1 team in Northern Virginia! Join this passionate team of industry-leading individuals supporting the best practices in Agile Software Development and hardware integration for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

As a member of the ITI2.1 Team, you will support the men and women charged with safeguarding the American people and enhancing the Nation's safety, security, and prosperity. CBP Officers and Border Patrol agents are on the front lines, every day, protecting our national security by combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated and supportive activity.

Responsibilities:
    \n
  • Lead the development and maintenance of technical documentation, reports, user manuals, brochures, training guides, and operational support materials for internal and external users.
  • \n
  • Deliver iterative updates to product documentation, incorporating user feedback and development changes, including layout, graphics, formatting, and deployment of final deliverables.
  • \n
  • Ensure all documentation meets established quality standards, version control, and organizational branding requirements.
  • \n
  • Manage and refine the team's documentation repository to maintain structured, searchable, and easily accessible resources.
  • \n
  • Collaborate directly with software engineers, system architects, product owners, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to extract and translate complex technical information into clear, concise documentation.
  • \n
  • Contribute to Agile planning cycles by providing estimations and tracking of documentation workload and deliverables.
  • \n
  • Ensure technical documentation is delivered in parallel with software development cycles; continuously review and refactor materials as needed.
  • \n
  • Drive improvements in documentation processes, templates, and style guides to increase quality and efficiency across teams.

You have:
    \n
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation, criteria includes, but not limited to:
  • \n
  • 3-year check for felony convictions
  • \n
  • 1-year check for illegal drug use
  • \n
  • 1-year check for misconduct such as theft or fraud
  • \n
  • Must be available to work a hybrid schedule with an on-site requirement in Sterling, VA
  • \n
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., English, Communications, Computer Science, or Engineering).
  • \n
  • \n 7+ years of experience in technical writing, ideally supporting engineering, software development, or O&M projects.
  • \n
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality technical documentation within Agile Scrum environments.
  • \n
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, including advanced formatting and custom template design.
  • \n
  • Proficiency in Adobe toolsets such as Acrobat Pro, FrameMaker or InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • \n
  • Solid understanding of document lifecycle management and configuration control using platforms like SharePoint, Team Foundation Server (TFS), Confluence, or similar tools.
  • \n
  • Strong knowledge of document structure, logic flow, and best practices for readability and accessibility.
  • \n
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interface effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, maintenance procedures, and system design documentation.
  • \n
  • Contextual understanding of technical terminology in software, networking, and systems engineering.
  • \n
  • Experience in desktop publishing, digital content management, and electronic publishing platforms.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, drive initiatives, and mentor junior writers or team members.
  • \n

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing for DHS, DoD, or other federal agencies.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD environments.
  • \n
  • Understanding of FISMA, FedRAMP, or other federal compliance documentation standards.

Pay Range : There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
$84,900 - $178,400
