Job Description

A K-12 school in Aurora, IL is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide effective communication support for students and staff. This contract position spans the entire school year, offering an opportunity to play a vital role in the educational environment by facilitating accessible communication for individuals with hearing impairments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
• Collaborate with educators, students, and families to ensure clear communication and support academic success
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in interpreting
• Assist in the development of communication plans tailored to individual student needs
• Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions related to deaf and hard-of-hearing student support

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret fluently in educational settings
• Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 schools or similar environments
• Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational terminology
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
