A bit about us:

Our client is a well-established general contracting firm based in southern Wisconsin, with over 30 years of experience delivering high-quality commercial, industrial, and institutional projects across the region and beyond. The firm is known for its breadth of capabilities, including new construction, adaptive reuse, and self-performed trades such as carpentry, polished concrete, commercial roofing, demolition, excavation, and quarry-based aggregate supply. With deep roots in the community and a reputation for reliability and innovation, our client strives to bring every project to life with inspired design and purposeful execution.

Why join us?

Broad Project Exposure & Integrated Services: You’ll estimate across varied sectors—commercial, industrial, institutional—and engage in projects ranging from ground-up construction to adaptive reuse, often working alongside teams handling self-performed work like concrete, roofing, and excavation.

A Reputation for Excellence: Our client’s strong presence in southern Wisconsin and consistent delivery have made it a trusted partner locally and nationally.

Collaborative Culture & Career Growth: As a senior member of the preconstruction team, you’ll interface directly with owners, subcontractors, and internal teams—shaping bids and guiding decision-making. There are opportunities for professional growth and leadership in shaping estimate strategies.

Hands-On Involvement: Estimators here often transition between office work and project site collaboration—building deep knowledge of how projects are constructed, enhancing accuracy and foresight.

Impact Through Self-Perform Capabilities: The firm’s ability to self-perform many trades offers more direct control in cost modeling and innovative estimating solutions.

Review architectural and engineering documents (drawings, specs, RFIs, addenda) to establish detailed scopes of work.
Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate material, labor, and equipment cost models using tools such as RSMeans, Timberline, ProEst, PlanSwift, or HCSS HeavyBid.
Solicit, gather, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing; maintain a robust network of reliable trade partners.
Collaborate with internal project management, operations, and self-perform teams to ensure cohesive alignment on pricing, scope, and timeline.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering options for clients and leadership.
Track bid status, manage bid day activity, and support negotiations and bid clarifications.
Participate in preconstruction and estimating meetings; assist with the transition of awarded projects and provide budget support during execution.
Ensure documentation accuracy, audit-readiness, and consistency across estimating deliverables.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent experience may be accepted.
A minimum of 5 years of estimating experience with commercial or industrial construction—preferably within general contracting or heavy-civil environments.

Exceptional ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and drawings.
Proven negotiation skills and vendor/subcontractor relationship management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present estimates to internal stakeholders and clients.

Strategic thinker with ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Collaborative workstyle, able to partner across departments and deliver value in a team-oriented environment.
