Position Overview

Hopeful Aging is seeking a self-directed Research Assistant / Activity Facilitator to support grant-funded research projects aimed at improving engagement for individuals with memory loss. This independent contractor role involves conducting assessments and observations and potentially facilitating activities and contributing to the development of person-centered activity content. The consultant will deliver services on an as-needed, project-based basis at locations such as nursing homes and assisted living communities.

This is a non-employee , temporary contractor role funded through August 2026.

The number of hours will vary based on project needs, with an average of 28–36 hours per week.

Most of the work will take place at nursing homes and assisted living communities throughout the Greater Cleveland area. Some tasks may also be completed remotely from home on select days.

Scope of Work (Project-Based Tasks May Include):

· Conducting participant assessments and observations aligned with research goals

· Administering surveys and gathering qualitative or observational data

· Possibly facilitating person-centered activities for individuals with dementia

· Possibly contributing to the development of original activity content based on participant needs and consultant expertise

· Providing status updates on data collection and other tasks

· Complying with research protocols and confidentiality practices (training to be provided)

· Participating in periodic project check-ins 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred areas of study include psychology, gerontology, sociology, and related fields)

· Demonstrated ability to work independently without supervision

· Prior experience engaging persons with dementia or other vulnerable populations (e.g., children with autism, individuals with intellectual disabilities)

· Excellent organizational, observational, and communication skills

· Ability to manage own schedule, workflow, and transportation

· Comfort using mobile devices, web platforms, and productivity tools

· Legally eligible to work as an independent contractor in the United States

Engagement Terms:

· Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099); not an employee of Hopeful Aging

· Hours: Typically, work will occur during normal business hours (Mon - Fri, 9am-5pm), although there is some flexibility, based on mutually agreed-upon deliverables and project scope.

· Number of Hours Per Week: Based upon project's weekly needs, but typically 28-36 hours per week

· Compensation: Highly competitive and commensurate with experience and scope of work

· Reimbursements: Mileage reimbursed for approved travel to project sites

· Duration: Through August 2026, subject to ongoing grant funding

· Tools & Equipment: Contractor is responsible for providing their own transportation and communication devices
