JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator – Clinical Nursing Practice at North Mississippi Health Services plans, coordinates, and implements activities related to nursing recruitment with a focus on nursing schools, retention of nursing Externs and Interns, and Graduate Nurse education. They serve as a liaison between Nursing Practice and various departments, nursing schools, and graduate nurses, ensuring effective communication and promoting a positive environment. The coordinator also oversees performance improvement initiatives, maintains compliance with budgets, utilizes resources to stay informed about changing trends in nursing education and practice, and assists and supports the Director of Nursing Practice and Program Manager with departmental tasks and programs. 


 

JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate:
  • Plans, coordinates and implements the retention/recruitment activities: Faculty Forum, Nursing School visits, career fairs, and other events that promote nursing.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements quarterly NDNQI Pressure Injury survey.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing Practice with:
o Nursing Orientation.
o Graduate Nurses program.
o Nurse Extern and Intern program.
o Educational Information/Training.
o Clinician Support.
  • Coordinates the Clinical Ladder “ADVANCE” Program.
Reporting/Recordkeeping:
  • Responsible for accuracy of nurses notes/documentation, maintaining/updating Nurse’s Net and review of patients medical charts. Maintains and reviews educational records of Nurse Externs, Nurse Interns, and Graduate Nurses; to include orientation competency, initial competencies, annual review, and certifications.
Customer Relations:
  • Creates and maintains good interaction between Nursing Practice and Nurse Managers, Educators, Schools of Nursing, and Graduate Nurses.
  • Primary liaison for Management Information Systems(MIS), Risk Management, Organizational Performance Department (OPD), Pharmacy, and Schools of Nursing.
  • Maintains contact with current nursing students on minimum of quarterly basis for recruitment purposes.
Staff Training/Education:
  • Provides orientation and competency check offs for Externs, Interns, and Graduate Nurses.
  • Reviews literature/information related to nursing practices/education.
Performance Improvement:
  • Reviews all “ Safety Solutions” related to pressure injury and reports to OPD leadership.
  • Reviews and analyzes results of PI data and develop education plans to address improvement in pressure injury.
  • Supports Director of Nursing Practice and Program Manager in assessing results of Performance Improvement indicators, developing and implementing programs based on this data to improve quality of care. Performs chart audits and supports the Nurse Managers in assisting with education.
Budget:
  • Assures compliance of departmental budget, Recruitment and Retention activities, and supplies for Nursing Orientation
Self Development:
  • Utilizes resources to stay informed of changing trends in nursing education, practice, and retention.
  • Ensure continued education around pressure ulcer development and prevention.
Regulatory:
  • Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.
  • Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guidelines/regulations.
  • Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Promotes constant survey-readiness through interdisciplinary rounding and participation in accreditation surveys.
