The City of Indianola (pop.15,833) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:

• Assists in safely and properly maintaining the City's streets, storm sewer, grounds, buildings, and/or other facilities for use by employees and the general public.
• Repairs, patches, fills, paints, and maintains streets, street signs, street light bulbs and trims trees obstructing streets and/or street signs.
• Performs welding and/or masonry work, operates and maintains equipment relative to area of assignment, and performs routine mechanical repairs.
• Removes dead animals from streets.
• Snow and ice removal operations including plowing snow, shoveling snow, and sanding streets.
• Follows OSHA procedures to ensure safety policies and procedures are enforced for the protection of the crews, co-workers and public.
• Supervises crews of temporary employees on specific assignments.

The successful candidate will have:

• High school diploma or GED equivalence.
• Prefer two years' experience in public works department.
• Required certification of Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsement.
• Knowledge of Public Works Department operations, policies, and procedures.
• Principles and practices of street maintenance, street, storm sewer, building, and ground maintenance.
• Use of all types of PPE including but not limited to, ear plugs, hard hat, respirator, gloves, chaps, safety glasses, and face shields.

The hourly rate for this position is $28.19/hour ($58,640.67Annually) with benefits. This is a Full-Time union position requiring 40 hours per week and the ability to respond within 30 minutes.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening, background check, physical and physical capacity test.
