JOB SUMMARY:

Direct the day-to-day operations of the Machine shop. Schedule production to meet Assembly needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain daily operations of the machine shop department
  • Work with tooling vendors to maintain tooling stock levels and explore new options with other vendors
  • Ensures adherence to company policies, rules and regulations and reporting requirements relating to safety/heath, performance standards, operating procedures, processes, and training requirements. Coordinate cross training of existing employees
  • Ensure workplace safety through the enforcement of all applicable safety rules and requirements. Promote and encourage a proactive safety program
  • Monitor and report performance metrics as defined by management
  • Be familiar with all operations of all equipment in machine shop.
  • Daily inspection of department clean up
  • Responsibility for disposition of parts out of spec in machine shop (i.e., rework on scrap).
  • Approve variance of parts and final inspection
  • Works with Operational Manager to review production, quality control, maintenance and operational issues to determine causes of nonconformity, production shortfalls, and operating concerns for remediation and implementation of appropriate corrective action
  • Monitors productivity and coordinates activities of department/shifts of hourly production team members
  • Implement continuous improvement in the shop floor with respect to safety, quality, delivery and cost. Support the practices of Lean Manufacturing

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hire and coordinate training of new employees.
  • Write and deliver performance reviews for direct reports with emphasis on growth and continuous improvement.
  • Determine daily production and corresponding manpower requirements to meet production targets
  • Observe, train and coach employees in daily work activities, ensuring that workers conform to safety procedures while maintaining required production levels and using the proper documented operating procedures.
  • Coach and train employees to develop an appropriate skills pool

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 Year Technical/Associates Degree, or equivalent experience as a Supervisor in a manufacturing setting
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • The ability to motivate/empower others, and resolve conflict, and possess a basic understanding of management principles and concepts
  • Strong team skills, including the ability to coach and develop work teams and provide appropriate training on CI methods and initiatives to subordinates
  • Proven ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload, assume and manage multiple tasks, adapt to change, and consistently meet deadlines
  • Decision-making skills, ability to problem solve
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other position applicable software applications
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic machine problem

  • Work is performed in a moderate to loud manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
