Immigration Paralegal
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Immigration Paralegal to join our growing team. In this role, you will support our attorneys in a variety of immigration matters, including family- and humanitarian-based immigration, business immigration, deportation defense, and more. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of California immigration practices, be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for helping others navigate the often complex and evolving U.S. immigration system. Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and File Immigration Applications: Assist with the preparation, filing, and tracking of petitions and applications, including family-based and employment-based visa petitions, Adjustment of Status (I-485), U.S. citizenship applications (N-400), Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and asylum applications.
Maintain Case Files: Manage and maintain detailed and accurate case files, documents, and records. Ensure timely submission of forms and documentation required for each case.
Legal Research: Conduct research on immigration laws, regulations, and procedures, and assist attorneys in analyzing case strategy and options for clients.
Client Interaction: Communicate regularly with clients to gather necessary information, explain legal processes, and keep them informed about case progress. Provide excellent client service in a culturally sensitive and responsive manner.
Correspondence with Government Agencies: Interface with government agencies, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). Draft and respond to inquiries, requests for evidence (RFEs), and Notices of Action.
Assistance with Deportation Defense: Assist attorneys in preparing and filing motions and petitions in removal proceedings before the immigration court, including bond hearings, cancellation of removal, and other forms of relief.
Scheduling and Administrative Support: Schedule client appointments, consultations, interviews, and court hearings. Prepare and organize documents for hearings and interviews with government agencies or immigration courts.
Compliance Management: Ensure that all filings, applications, and legal processes comply with U.S. immigration laws and California-specific regulations. Monitor and track deadlines and statutory requirements.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably with immigration experience.
Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred, and any additional languages a plus.
Strong understanding of U.S. immigration laws and procedures.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary, Benefits, and Work Location: The salary for this position is at least $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
