Residential Electrician – Up to $5,000 Signing Bonus! Summary: Duties include installing, modifying, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing overhead and underground primary electrical distribution lines at the Defense Supply Center Richmond. The role involves working on de‑energized lines and, when necessary, energized lines under special conditions. Responsibilities Install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair overhead and underground primary electrical distribution lines. Perform most work on de‑energized lines; occasionally work on energized lines under special conditions. Install, maintain, and repair a variety of high‑voltage terminations from cable preparation to conductor and jacket sealing. Install and maintain pole and pad‑mounted transformers and switches. Maintain street lights and perform tree trimming and cleaning during bad weather. Respond to trouble calls for inside or outside electrical work, diagnose and repair issues, or notify supervisor for major repairs. Qualifications Applicants will be rated according to the OPM Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. While no specific length of experience is required, applicants must meet any screen‑out elements and demonstrate the required level of knowledge, skill, and experience. Ability to perform job duties with ordinary supervision, including work on power cables, transformers, insulators, connections, splicing, and control equipment such as switches and circuit breakers. Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. citizen. Tour of Duty: Set Schedule. Security Requirements: Non‑Sensitive. Appointment subject to favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorable background checks may result in removal. FLSA: Non‑Exempt. Selective Service Requirement for males born after 12‑31‑59. Pre‑Employment Physical: Required. Mission Essential: May be required to report for duty during natural disasters, inclement weather, or crisis. Valid state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class B endorsement. Bar Negotiation Unit Status: Yes. Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized. Physical Effort Moderately heavy physical effort required: carrying tools and equipment up to 75 lb, lifting, pulling, and climbing, working aloft on poles, in trenches, or manholes, using block and tackle, and performing tasks in confined spaces. Working Conditions Outdoors most of the time; subject to extreme weather, energized high‑voltage lines, underground facilities. May work nights or weekends during severe weather.
