The Great Oaks Charter School – New York City (GO-NYC) opened in the Fall of 2013 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The school serves approximately 310 students in 6th-11th grades and will serve 6th-12th in scale. GO-NYC is located at 240 Bleecker Street in the West Village. We utilize a full inclusion model with Integrated Co-Teaching classrooms (two co-teachers per core class and an AmeriCorps Fellow). Role Description GO-NYC High School seeks a dynamic, creative, mission-aligned urban educator to join our team as a High School History Teacher for the 2025-26 school year, specializing in US and/or Global History. Teachers are responsible for preparing students for college & career success through rigorous instruction and maintaining high expectations for conduct. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction Demonstrating solid knowledge and understanding of the content matter. Establishing, communicating, and demanding high expectations for student learning, and quality of work. Using a variety of instructional strategies that are academically rigorous and engaging. Preparing detailed lesson plans mapped to a year-long academic plan to address learning needs. Taking responsibility for student learning and continually addressing learning needs. Communicating that this work is important, that students can do it, and that you will not give up on a student. Data Analysis Track and analyze student data to identify learning needs and set ambitious, attainable goals. Plan and implement strategies to achieve targets related to student outcomes. Collaborate with the principal and other teachers to revise curriculum based on assessment data. Classroom Environment Maintain an efficient, respectful, and positive tone in the classroom. Maximize student learning and communicate a sense of urgency. Keep all students on task during lessons. Enforce school rules, values, and expectations. Build relationships with students that support academic and personal growth. Supervise students inside and outside the classroom and during transitions. Build a collaborative advisory classroom community. Additional Responsibilities Contribute to student and school success with time and effort beyond the standard role. Independently take on additional responsibilities and demonstrate leadership. Maintain communication with parents about successes and challenges. Maintain an orderly school culture and occasionally lead professional development sessions. Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the mission of the school. Competencies and Qualifications The successful candidate will have proven success in implementing high-quality instruction that improved student achievement in an urban school, exceptional relationship-building skills, and the ability to communicate clearly to multiple stakeholders. The candidate will also have: Bachelor\'s degree from a competitive college or university required; advanced degree in subject area preferred At least two years of experience improving student achievement in an urban school Knowledge of high school History content State teaching certification (strongly preferred) Strong classroom management abilities A belief that all students can succeed A do-whatever-it-takes attitude, including willingness to work occasionally on weekends or evenings Ability to receive feedback and implement it promptly Compensation Great Oaks provides a competitive compensation and benefits package; exact compensation varies by experience, certification, and education. Salary range anticipated: $63,000 - $103,456. General Information This position is for the 2025-2026 school year, with start anticipated in early November 2025.
