Under the general direction of the Prosecutor, assists in conducting criminal investigations to prepare cases for criminal prosecution. Interviews suspects, witnesses, and victims or other parties related to case investigation. Manages physical and digital evidence. Serves as a liaison to police agencies. Serves subpoenas to witnesses as needed. Prepares evidence and witnesses for trial and other court hearings. This includes interviewing witnesses and retrieving evidence from agencies. Assists in criminal investigations upon request of county police agencies with jurisdiction of a case. Sends digital evidence to defense attorneys. Receives information about crimes and performs additional investigation as necessary and/or at the request of the prosecuting attorney. Acts as a liaison between police agencies and the Prosecutor’s Office. Prepares written reports as requested regarding investigative activities. May offer testimony as required by the court. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications The knowledge normally acquired through the completion of an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Equivalent work experience may be accepted. Must have an operator’s license, concealed weapons permit and qualification. Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certification. Four to six years of investigative experience. Computer skills necessary to use various digital evidence management systems. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with law enforcement personnel, defense attorneys, and the public in situations that require tact and patience. Mental ability to frequently handle simultaneous projects and deadlines. Physical ability to lift twenty-five pounds. Meet standards of the Sheriff Department to be Deputized. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Working Conditions Hybrid Work Classification: On-site required. Flexibility Classification: Fixed schedule. Normal office environment with occasional discomfort due to heat, dust, and noise, but work could include periodic outdoor conditions with exposure to extreme hot or cold weather. Frequent exposure to significant pressures related to highly sensitive, hazardous, and/or mentally demanding situations outside the workplace. Extended workdays (beyond 8 hours/day or Saturday/Sunday) are occasionally required. On-call availability to handle work problems, attend meetings, handle emergencies/crisis situations, etc. at all hours is occasionally required.
