Job Description: The Assistant Cross Country Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide a comprehensive and positive cross country experience for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in developing runners of all abilities, promoting a positive team culture, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices.
Work with individual runners and small groups to improve technique, fitness, and race strategy.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team events.
Help foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
Assist with meet day logistics, including course walk-throughs, warm-ups, and cool-downs.
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and the Head Coach.
Promote good sportsmanship and adherence to MSHSL rules and Blake School policies.
Assist with team administrative tasks as needed (e.g., equipment management, uniform distribution).
Attend all practices, meets, and team meetings as scheduled.
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
Qualifications:
Previous cross country coaching or competitive running experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
Knowledge of cross country training principles, techniques, and race strategy.
Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Familiarity with MSHSL rules and regulations is a plus.
