Administrative Assistant

Hanover County Government offers a part-time, non-benefited position with a salary range of $19.52 to $20.19 hourly. The role is based in Hanover, VA, and operates part-time with approximately 16 hours per week, from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with flexibility within these hours.

This paraprofessional position involves administrative support tasks and project management within the Planning Department. The role is part of Hanover County's Career Development Program (CD), with four levels ranging from Administrative Assistant I to Senior Administrative Assistant. Incumbents typically report to a Department Head or Manager and do not supervise staff, except for Senior Administrative Assistants who may lead lower-level Administrative Assistants.

Essential functions include preparing correspondence and payment vouchers, maintaining computer and paper files, performing office support activities, providing customer service, preparing reports, managing calendars and schedules, making travel arrangements, and performing related work as assigned. The role operates in an office environment with minimal physical effort and is classified as non-exempt under FLSA.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include effective communication, record maintenance, organization, telephone use, listening, understanding directions, learning agency policies and procedures, and establishing working relationships with County officials, employees, and the public.

Education and experience requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with previous administrative experience and training in Office Support Technology preferred. Higher levels on the Career Ladder require additional education and experience up to an Associate Degree.

Special conditions include a criminal records check, fingerprinting, a CPS check for certain departments, U.S. citizenship requirement for the Sheriff's Office, a probationary period, participation in the Citizen Emergency Response On-call Plan for DSS, obtaining a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days for DPU, and a VCIN for CCP.
